Morning Thrive - "A Prompting"

A Prompting

Hey everybody!  Welcome back to Morning Thrive!  We've been talking all week about how to discern the voice of God. We talked about how God speaks through the Bible, God speaks through people, God speaks through the arrangement of certain circumstances, and here's another thing: this is a little bit more subjective but nevertheless important, that God speaks through what I would call an inner prompting of His Spirit in us. A prompting is sometimes a warning, sometimes an urging to do something that we just know didn't come from us, it really came from God. You see this in the Bible, the apostle Paul had a vision that was clearly the Lord, Peter had a dream. You see other people that were prompted by the Lord: Phillip was prompted by the Spirit of God to on this road to Gaza where he has an encounter with an Ethiopian leader. This is the work of the Holy Spirit within us, and there are sometimes when the Spirit of God will warn us. I've talked to people before and they've said, "I just had a check in my spirit that I shouldn't do that." And sure enough, that would have been devastating, God was protecting them! Sometimes it was a prompting that, "I need to speak to that person about the Gospel." And they went ahead and spoke about it, and it was just at the right time. The Spirit of God lives within you if you follow Jesus, and He will prompt you to warn you, to shut doors, to move you forward. He will do that if you listen to Him. The question is: are you listening to Him? Are you listening and following the leading of the Holy Spirit? That's why we need to be in church together, because as we worship God together, and we're in God's Word, we're surrounded by godly council, then we can better discern the circumstances and the promptings of the Spirit in our life. So why not come to church this Sunday? If you're close to Colleyville, come to First Colleyville! If not, go to a Bible teaching church in your are, and let's worship God together and hear His voice. Have a great weekend!
