Morning Thrive - "Authorities"

Written by Pastor Craig Etheredge  |  Found in: Morning Thrive

Hey everybody!  Welcome back to Morning Thrive!  We're talking about the obedient life, and we're lookin at Jesus as an example. We said Jesus was obedient to His heavenly Father by coming to earth, that was yesterday, but here's another one: Jesus was obedient to the authorities over His life here on earth. He was obedient to His mom and his dad. You may know the story about how Jesus was seperated from His parents and they thought He was with the family. Have you ever left your kids at church? It's the same thing that happened! They were on their way back home from time in Jerusalem, and they're like, "Where'd you put Jesus?" "Well, I thought He was with you!" "No, I thought He was with you!" They go all the way back and there's Jesus with the philosophers, with the scribes, with the pharisees, talking about the Word of God. They said, "Jesus, why are You here!" And He said, "Didn't you know I'd be about my Father's business?" And then the next verse says this: "And He went down with them and came to Nazareth and was submissive to them." In other words, even as a young man Jesus chose to be submissive to the authorities that the Father put in His life: his mom and his dad. One of the ways we're obedient to God is not just to be obedient to what God tells us to do through His Word, but also to be obedient to the authorities He has placed in your life. Do you have a boss? Do you have parents? Do you have police? Do you have government authorities? We're to live obedient lives to them, and as we do that we gain a standing and a voice to tell them about our ultimate authority, who is Jesus. If you need to be obedient to an authority in your life, why don't you do it today? Have a good day!
