“Descend Into Service”

Hey everybody! Welcome back to Morning Thrive. We’re talking about selfless leadership, and really Jesus exemplified this kind of leadership. Selfless leaders always descend into service. That’s what they do, they descend into service. In Philippians 2, “Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men.” I love this, Jesus is a poster child for this, because He exist in the form of God in heaven with all praise going to Him and He descended to earth. And not just to earth, but all the way down to the form of a servant. Jesus served and loved his disciples; He even took a basin and towel and He washed their feet. In my office, I have a long conference table and in the center of it is a basin and a towel that dates all the way back to the 1800’s. I put it there to remind everyone who sits at that table that we are first and foremost servants of God, here to serve other people. Are you a leader like that? A servant leader is one who will be the last one to leave an event, because he’s helping to clean up. A servant leader will be the one that stays late to encourage someone that is hurting. Also, a selfless servant leader will be the one to make an appointment with that critical person to help them work through their attitude and conflicts. Listen, it takes energy and work, but that is what it means to be a selfless leader, it means to be a servant. Are you serving the people under you? Why don’t you ask God to show you how to do that today?
