"Love Meets Needs”

Hey everybody! Welcome back to Morning Thrive. This week we’re talking about how to love your family, and we have already looked at some very important ways to do that such as, love being patient and love is kind as in 1 Corinthians 13. Then, it goes into giving us some things that love is not and some things that we should not do and things that we should remove from our homes. Here is what love is not: according to 1 Corinthians 13:4-5, “it is not arrogant, or rude, it does not insist on its own way.” You know, there is a lot packed into that verse, and every one of them gives a powerful punch. It’s not rude. It is not arrogant. It doesn’t insist on its own way. If we put that all together and summarize, what it is saying is that love is not selfish. Love is not selfish. Love is not all about you. If your relationships always circle around you, your happiness and what you want, where you want to go, what you want to do and whether you like it or not, or if everyone is walking on eggshells around you because you might explode, that is not healthy. Those are not sustainable relationships. The way God sees love is counter intuitive to us. We think, ”Well, I want to be happy, so I want things to go my way.” So, self- focus is what we go after, but God says, “if you want to be happy and joyful, it’s about losing yourself in service to others.” In this intuitive way, if I put myself last, that’s when I really find true happiness. In fact, the Bible says in Philippians 2, “Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves.” I wish there was some tricky nuance to the Greek, that would give us some hidden meaning, but there is not. It just says put others before yourself, and then you will find real health and real relationships. So are you doing that? Why not try that today?
