Morning Thrive - "Pressed"

Written by Pastor Craig Etheredge  |  Found in: Morning Thrive

Hey everybody!  Welcome back to Morning Thrive!  This week we’re talking about how to live under pressure.  Jesus is a great example of that.  The night before He was arrested, Jesus went to the Garden of Gethsemane.  Gethsemane literally means olive press.  It was an area in an olive grove where there are still olive trees today that are over 1,000 years old.  There in that olive grove they would have harvested the olives in the late fall or early winter after the first winter rains.  They would gather those olives together, and they would press the oil out of them.   During the time that Jesus was at the garden it was fairly abandoned, but the olive press was there.  To press olives they take the olives and put them in a little sack and grind them with a millstone.  I don’t know if you have seen what that looks like, but it’s a big stone that rolls over and crushes the olives.  Next, they take the olives and put weights on them and press them down further, and they press them again, and they press them a third time.  By the last pressing, all the oil has been taken out of the olives.  The oil is used for medicinal purposes.  They use it to fuel olive oil lamps and all kinds of other purposes.  Jesus was in the place of crushing, and He was in a season of crushing as well.  That may be you.  You may feel like you have weights on you; the crushing pressure of demands in your life seems like more than you can bear.  This week I’m going to show you how to handle that kind of pressure and to come through it experiencing the power of God in your life.
