Morning Thrive - "Surrender"
Hey everybody! Welcome back to Morning Thrive! We’re talking about how to live under pressure and how Jesus is the great example of how to do that. He gathered godly people around him; he took the matters around him to the Lord. Here’s another thing he did, he came ultimately to a point of surrender to God’s will. There’s a progression to it; you can hear the progression. In Mark 26:39, he cries out to the Father, “If it’s possible, let this cup pass from me. God, I don’t want this. If there’s any way, let it pass.” Later on in the night he prays, “My Father, if it cannot pass unless I drink it, your will be done.” In other words, God, if this cannot pass from me, then I submit to your will. When Judas comes with a garrison of soldiers to take Jesus away, Peter draws a sword and tries to defend Jesus. Jesus says this, “Put your sword away. Shall I not drink the cup the Father has given me?” In other words, he said, “Peter, I’ve come to resolution on this. I’ve come to acceptance. I’ve come to the point of surrender.” Now listen, Jesus came to the point of surrender, but have you? Have you come to the point of surrendering to God and saying, “Whatever is going to happen in my life, Lord, I trust you; I surrender to you. I’m not going to fight you, I’m not going to be angry with you, and I’m not going to doubt you. I’m going to submit myself to you and say, God, whatever you want to do is what I want. Your will is my will. Your direction is my direction.” And you say, “Craig, I don’t know how to get there.” If you don’t know how to get there, then why don’t you get around some godly people this weekend? Why don’t you come to First Colleyville? Let’s pray together, let’s seek God together, and let’s surrender afresh and anew to God’s purpose for our lives. It’s there that you find joy; and there that you find peace. That’s how you get through stress.
